Buckeyes back in both top 25 college basketball polls after win over Michigan State

After a 69-67 win over No. 22 Michigan State on Sunday, Thad Matta’s basketball Buckeyes moved back into both top 25 college basketball polls that were released earlier today. This week, Ohio State is No. 24 in the Associated Press and USA Today.

In the AP, Florida, Wichita State and Villanova are the top three teams this week. The Gators received 50 first-place votes from the 65-member national media panel and are on a school-record 22-game winning streak. The Shockers are No. 2 with the other 15 first-place votes, while the Wildcats are third.

Rounding out the top 10 in the AP poll, it’s Arizona who dropped one spot to No. 4 after losing to Oregon, followed by Louisville, Virginia, Duke, Michigan, San Diego State and Kansas.

In the coaches’ poll, Florida is also No. 1 with 25 of the 32 first-place votes, followed by No. 2 Wichita State with the other seven first-place ballots. Then it’s Villanova, Arizona, Louisville, Duke, San Diego State, Virginia, Michigan and Kansas.

Among Big Ten teams in the AP poll, Michigan is the highest ranked at No. 9 followed by No. 12 Wisconsin, No. 22 Michigan State and No. 24 Ohio State.

This week, the Buckeyes begin Big Ten tournament play as the fifth-seed and will take on No. 12-seed Purdue on Thursday. Tip-off at Bankers Life Fieldhouse is scheduled for approximately 2:25 p.m., and the game will be televised on BTN.
