Thad Matta’s cagers return to the AP top 25, move up in coaches’ poll

After dispatching No. 16 Iowa on the road and handling Purdue at the friendly confines of Value City Arena in the past week, Thad Matta’s cagers returned to the Associated Press top 25 men’s college basketball poll and moved up five spots in the USA Today coaches’ poll as both were released earlier today.

This week, Ohio State is No. 22 in the AP poll, and No. 20 in the coaches’ poll.

Undefeated Syracuse is No. 1 in both polls. The Orange received all 65 first-place votes from the national media panel in the AP poll, and every 32 first-place votes from the coaches.

In the AP poll after Syracuse, it’s Arizona followed by Florida, Wichita State, San Diego State, Villanova, Kansas, Duke, Michigan State and Cincinnati.

In the coaches’ poll, Wichita State is No. 2 then it’s Arizona, Florida, San Diego State, Villanova, Kansas, Louisville, Duke and Michigan State.

The Spartans are the only Big Ten team to crack the top 25 in both polls. In the AP, Michigan is No. 15, Iowa is No. 16, Wisconsin is No. 21 and Ohio State is No. 22. In the coaches’ poll, the Hawkeyes are 15th, the Wolverines are 18th, the Buckeyes are 20th, and the Badgers are 21st.

This week, Ohio State has two games. First, the Buckeyes host No. 15 Michigan on Tuesday night. On Saturday, the Scarlet and Gray travel to Champaign to take on Illinois.
