Court Report: Buckeyes get another tough test on the road, take on Iowa tonight

After picking up a huge win away from the friendly confines of Value City Arena against Wisconsin last Saturday, the Buckeyes continue their two-game road trip by taking on No. 17/13 Iowa tonight at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:02 p.m. ET.

TV and Radio:

Tonight’s game will be televised on ESPN with Mike Tirico and Dan Dakich. On your terrestrial radio dial, WBNS-FM 97.1 The Fan is the flagship station for the 56 outlets on the Ohio State IMG Sports Network. Paul Keels will call the play-by-play with analysis from Ron Stokes. The game can also be heard live via satellite on Sirius 91 and XM 91.

Buckeye Notes:

The Buckeyes enter Tuesday’s conference match-up with a 17-5 overall mark and are 4-5 league play, which places Ohio State tied for fifth in the Big Ten. The Buckeyes are No. 18 in the latest RPI rankings with a reocrd of 1-3 against teams in the RPI top 50 and are 10-5 against teams in the RPI top 100. The lone victory in the RPI top 50 came against Wisconsin (79-62) last Saturday. The seven wins against the RPI top 51-100 includes victories over Ohio (79-69), Marquette (52-35), Wyoming (65-50), Maryland (76-60), North Dakota State (79-62), Delaware (76-64), Notre Dame (64-61), Nebraska (84-53) and Illinois (62-55).

The Buckeyes are led by 6-foot-8 junior forward LaQuinton Ross, who averages 14.1 pointers per game and a team-leading 41.7 percent from three-point range. Lenzelle Smith Jr., a 6-foot-4 senior guard, averages 11.8 points per contest.

Hawkeye Notes:

Iowa is 17-5 overall, sits in third place in the Big Ten at 6-3, and are ranked No. 17 in the RPI. The Hawkeye are 3-5 against teams in the RPI top 50 and 9-5 against opponents in the RPI top 100. Iowa’s three wins against teams in the RPI top 50 includes victories over Xavier (77-74), Ohio State (84-74) and Minnesota (94-73). The seven more wins in the RPI top 51-100 are over UTEP (89-53), Notre Dame (98-93) Nebraska (67-57), Northwestern (93-67), Northwestern (76-50) and Illinois (81-74).

Devyn Marble leads Iowa with 16.3 points a game, while Aaron White contributes 13.5 points and is leading the Big Ten Conference in field goal percentage, making 61.7 percent of his shots (100-162). White and Malsahn Basabe each average a team high 6.5 rebounds a game. Since winning in Columbus on Jan. 12, Iowa is 3-2 in conference play with wins at home vs. Minnesota and road wins at Northwestern and Illinois. Losses were at Michigan and at home vs. Michigan State in overtime.

Series History:

Iowa leads the all-time series with Ohio State 74-71. The Buckeyes are 23-47 in Iowa City vs. the Hawkeyes. Thad Matta’s Buckeyes are 11-5 vs. Iowa since 2004-05, his first at Ohio State. When ranked in the Associated Press Top 25 Poll, Ohio State is 23-11 vs. the Hawkeyes. Ohio State is 11-18 vs. ranked Iowa teams and when both squads are ranked, Ohio State owns the 5-3 lead in the series.
