Buckeyes drop out of AP poll, but remain in coaches’ poll at No. 25

Even after rebounding from an embarrassing overtime loss to Penn State at home last Wednesday by defeating then-No. 14 Wisconsin in Madison on Saturday, it wasn’t enough to keep Thad Matta’s basketball Buckeyes in the Associated Press top 25 college basketball poll.

This week, Ohio State is just outside the top 25 and is receiving votes in the AP poll, but remains in the coaches’ poll at No. 25 as both were released earlier today.

Undefeated Syracuse is the new No. 1 after receiving all 65 first-place votes from the national media panel in the AP poll. The Orange are also a unanimous No. 1 in the coaches’ poll, garnering all 32 first-place votes on the USA Today ballots.

In the AP poll after Syracuse, it’s Arizona followed by Florida, Wichita State, San Diego State, Villanova, Cincinnati, Kansas, Michigan State and Michigan in the top 10. The only Big Ten team to crack the top 25 is Iowa at No. 17.

In the coaches’ poll, Wichita State is No. 2 then it’s Arizona, Florida, San Diego State, Villanova, Cincinnati, Michigan State, Kansas and Louisville.

Other Big Ten teams in the USA Today poll includes No. 13 Iowa, No. 16 Michigan, No. 24 Wisconsin and No. 25 Ohio State.

Yeah, I know. It doesn’t make sense that Wisconsin is ranked higher than Ohio State since the Buckeyes just defeated the Badgers on the road and both have same 17-5 records.

Ohio State has two games this week, visiting Iowa on Tuesday night, then hosting Purdue on Saturday.
