Court Report: Two top five teams to meet as No. 5 Michigan State hosts third-ranked Buckeyes

On Tuesday night, the No. 3 Ohio State Buckeyes face their toughest test yet as they travel to East Lansing to take on the No. 5 Michigan State Spartans. Tip-off at the Breslin Center is scheduled for 9:05 p.m. ET, and the game will be televised on ESPN with Mike Tirico and Dan Dakich. On your terrestrial radio dial, WBNS-FM 97.1 The Fan is the flagship station for the 56 outlets on the Ohio State IMG Sports Network. Paul Keels will call the play-by-play with analysis from former Buckeye Ron Stokes. The game can also be heard live via satellite on Sirius 91 and XM 91.

The Buckeyes enter tonight’s match-up with a perfect 15-0 overall record and are 2-0 in Big Ten action with wins over Morgan State (89-50), Ohio (79-69), at then-No. 17 Marquette (52-35), American University (63-52), Wyoming (65-50), North Florida (99-64), Maryland (76-60), Central Connecticut State (74-56), Bryant (86-48), North Dakota State (79-62), Delaware (76-64), Notre Dame (64-61), Louisiana-Monroe (71-31), Purdue (78-69) and Nebraska (84-53).

In OSU’s last game against the Cornhuskers on Saturday, five Buckeyes scored in double figures as sophomore guard Amedeo Della Valle contributed 15 points off the bench to lead No. 3 Ohio State over Nebraska at Value City Arena in Columbus.

For the game, Ohio State shot 27-of-50 (54.0%) from the floor, 9-of-19 from beyond the arc, and 21-of-29 (72.4%) from the charity stripe. Nebraska shot 21-of-56 (37.5%) from the field, 4-of-15 (26.7%) from three-point range, and 7-of-12 (58.3%) from the free throw line.

Along with Della Valle’s 15, freshman forward Marc Loving chipped in with 13 points in a reserve role, while junior guard Shannon Scott added 13 points with five assists. Junior forward LaQuinton Ross finished with 11 points, and junior center Amir Williams netted 10 points for the Buckeyes.

Michigan State is 13-1 overall and is also 2-0 in conference play with wins over McNeese State (98-56), Kentucky (78-74), Columbia (62-53), Portland (82-67), Virginia Tech (96-77), Oklahoma (87-76), Mount St. Mary’s (98-65), Oakland (67-63), North Florida (78-48), Texas (92-78), New Orleans (101-48), Penn State (79-63) and Indiana (73-56). The Spartans’ lone loss was to North Carolina (79-65) on Dec. 4.

In Michigan State’s last game against the Hoosiers, sophomore guard Garry Harris scored 26 points, including 17 in the first half, to lead the Spartans to a 73-56 victory over the Hoosiers on Saturday. Branden Dawson added 13 points for MSU.
