Court Report: Buckeyes face Bryant in first game of Gotham Classic tonight

Tonight, the No. 3/2 Ohio State Buckeyes take on the Bryant Bulldogs from Smithfield, R.I., in the BlackRock Gotham Classic. Tip-off at Value City Arena is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET, and the game will be televised on BTN with Eric Collins and Jim Jackson. On your terrestrial radio dial, WBNS-FM 97.1 The Fan is the flagship station for the 56-station Ohio State IMG Sports Network. Paul Keels will call the play-by-play with analysis from former Buckeye Ron Stokes. The game can also be heard live on Sirius 85 and XM 193.

In the Gotham Classic, Ohio State will host Bryant, North Dakota State and Delaware before traveling to New York to take on Notre Dame at Madison Square Garden on Dec. 21.

The Buckeyes enter tonight’s non-conference match-up with a 8-0 overall record with wins over Morgan State (89-50), Ohio (79-69), at then-No. 17 Marquette (52-35), American University (63-52), Wyoming (65-50), North Florida (99-64), Maryland (76-60) and Central Connecticut State (74-56).

In Ohio State’s last game against Central Connecticut State, junior forward LaQuinton Ross scored four of his career-high 23 points in a 10-0 second-half run to lead the Buckeyes past the Blue Devils on Saturday. Senior guard Lenzelle Smith Jr. added 17 points and junior center Amir Williams chipped in 11.

The Bulldogs from the Northeast Conference are 6-4 overall with wins over Dartmouth (87-77), Vermont (87-64), New Hampshire (60-55), Brown (70-67), Salve Regina (82-55) and Yale (72-62). The four losses were to Gonzaga (100-76), Harvard (86-68), North Dakota State (66-62) and Notre Dame (70-59).

In Bryant’s last game on Dec. 9, four Bulldogs scored in double figures as senior forward Alex Francis notched a team-high 17 points in the loss to the Fighting Irish. Junior guard Joe O’Shea adding 13, junior guard and leading scorer Dyami Starks scored 12, while freshman forward Dan Garvin chipping in 10.

This is the first meeting between Ohio State and Bryant.
