Court Report: No. 10/9 Ohio State takes on Ohio tonight at Value City Arena

Tonight, No. 10/9 Ohio State hosts in-state rival Ohio. Tip-off at Value City Arena is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. ET, and the game will be televised on BTN with Eric Collins and Jim Jackson. Both the Buckeyes and Bobcats enter tonight’s clash with 1-0 records. Ohio State defeated Morgan State, 89-50, as five Scarlet and Gray-clad ballers scored in double figures led by Lenzelle Smith Jr.’s 18 points. Junior guard Shannon Scott added 16 points and dished out a team-high seven assists, junior forward LaQuinton Ross recorded a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds, junior forward Sam Thompson also scored 14, and freshman forward Marc Loving added 10 points. The Buckeyes were 31-of-65 (47.7%) from the field, 11-of-25 (44.0%) from the beyond the arc, and 16-of-22 (72.7%) from the charity stripe.

Also on Saturday, Ohio opened its regular season with a 75-64 win over Northern Iowa at the Convocation Center in Athens. The Bobcats shot 51.9 percent from the floor in the game and connected on 11-of-23 three-pointers (.478). Junior forward Maurice Ndour had a game-high 20 points on 8-of-12 shooting with five rebounds and two blocked shots. Nick Kellogg, a 6-foot-3 senior guard and son of former OSU great, Clark Kellogg, added 16 points and five boards.

This is the 22nd meeting between the two schools. Ohio State is 17-4 all-time against Ohio. The Buckeyes are 15-2 in games played in Columbus.

The last time these two teams met on the hardwood was on November 16, 1994 in the Preseason NIT Tournament. “The Shaq of the MAC,” Gary Trent, scored 26 points and pulled down 15 rebounds as visiting Ohio defeated Ohio State, 78-67, in front of 12,311 fans at St. John Arena in Columbus.

Current Ohio State assistant coach Jeff Boals, playing for the Bobcats, totaled 14 points and eight boards.

The Buckeyes were led by Rick Yudt, who scored 20 points, and Doug Etzler added 17.
