Court Report: Buckeyes tip off 2013-14 season hosting Morgan State

On Saturday, No. 11/10 Ohio State tips off the 2013-14 basketball season as the Buckeyes host Morgan State from the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. The game is scheduled for 12:00 noon at Value City Arena.

Last season, Ohio State went 29-8 overall and finished tied for second with Michigan State in the Big Ten with a 13-5 mark. The Buckeyes won the Big Ten Conference tournament and advanced to the Elite Eight of the NCAA tournament before being knocked out by Wichita State.

Matta has four of his five starters returning from the 2012-13 campaign that include senior point guard Aaron Craft, senior shooting guard Lenzelle Smith Jr., junior forward Sam Thompson, and junior center Amir Williams.

Morgan State went 17-15 overall last season and were the MEAC regular season champions with a 10-6 mark. The Bears just missed going the NCAA Tournament losing to North Carolina A&T 57-54 in the MEAC title game.

This season, Morgan State have four starters returning and are predicted to finish second in the MEAC. The Bears’ top player is 6-foot-2 senior guard Justin Black, who averaged 14.2 points per game last season, a preseason MEAC First-Team selection.
