On Tuesday night, Ohio State came out firing on all cylinders, racing out to a big early lead and never looked back as the 21st-ranked Buckeyes blew past Northwestern, 76-56, at the Schottenstein Center.
Just three days prior to the OSU-NU match-up, Northwestern students stormed the court after beating then-No. 6 Purdue, so it appeared that the Wildcats might be a formidable opponent.
Wrong.
As former Buckeye football great Eddie George watched from the stands, Ohio State, clearly the more athletic team, was running up and down the court scoring at will early and often in the first half while the Wildcats looked overwhelmed. A layup by Dallas Lauderdale gave the Buckeyes a 13-3 advantage with 15:24 left and OSU led by double-digits the rest of the way. Click here to read more >>

Well, it wasn’t pretty, but it was a win. And for the second time this week, it was a win over a ranked team as Ohio State downed No. 13 Wisconsin, 60-51, at the Schottenstein Center, Saturday night.
It was a also game where the officials whistles play a role, as well, particularly early on in the game.
With 14:16 left in the first half, Ohio State’s leading scorer, Evan Turner, picked up his second foul with the Buckeyes trailing 10-9 and head coach Thad Matta summoned him to the pine as he was forced to sit on the bench for the remainder of the period after scoring six points.
“We hate to see a player go down like Evan because of getting into foul trouble,” Matta said. “But we put stuff in practice to prepare for those types of situations and how to execute. It helps having an extra day to prepare.”
After a triple by Wisconsin’s Jason Bohannon cut OSU lead to 23-20 with 5:19 until intermission, Ohio State went on a 11-2 run to close out the first half as David Lighty went on to score 9 of his 12 first half points during that span and the Buckeyes raced out to a 34-22 halftime lead.
