Ex-Buckeye Glenn’s arrest a bunch of bull

According to published reports, former Ohio State and NFL wide receiver Terry Glenn was arrested Tuesday evening in Irving, Texas, on suspicion of auto theft.

If you happen to watch or read one of the many media ventures here in Columbus owned by the Wolfe family, like WBNS-10TV or The Columbus Dispatch, you are automatically going to assume that Glenn is a car theft. But that’s their spin, and it’s not really the truth. A lot of other facts in their reports have been omitted.

I have learned that Glenn drives a Bentley. Not surprising since it seems to be the car of choice of the rich and/or famous. The luxury British automaker has been in the forefront for nearly a century, with their powerful yet elegant coupes and sedans dating back to World War I. Heck, even the Queen of England rides in a Bentley. Click here to read more >>

Turner returns as Bucks batter Hoosiers

Right: Evan Turner warms up prior to Ohio State’s game vs. Indiana, Wednesday night. (AP Photo)

For the first time since Dec. 12, Ohio State’s lineup was different. Last year’s First-Team, All-Big Ten performer was back.

Junior guard Evan Turner returned to the starting five for the Buckeyes for the first time since missing six games because of a transverse process fracture on the second and third lumbar vertebra of his spine to score eight points with four rebounds while dishing out a team-high five assists in 20 minutes of action as Ohio State defeated Indiana, 79-54, at the Schottenstein Center, Wednesday night.

While it was unclear how many minutes Turner would play against the Hoosiers since coming off the injury, it was actually foul trouble that sent him to the bench midway through the first half when he picked up his second personal at the 10:21 mark. David Lighty only played eight minutes in the opening period due to foul trouble, as well. Click here to read more >>

Hardwood Happenings: Michigan review, Indiana preview & Evan Turner’s return

Right: Evan Turner is now listed as day-to-day and could return to the lineup as soon as Wednesday night vs. Indiana. (AP Photo)

After missing six games because of a transverse process fracture on the second and third lumbar vertebra of his spine, last year’s First-Team, All-Big Ten performer could return to the lineup as early as tonight in Ohio State’s Big Ten home-opener against Indiana, but I wouldn’t hold your breath.

Back on Dec. 5 against Eastern Michigan with just under 14 minutes to go in the opening period, Turner drove down the lane and was fouled going up for a dunk. He missed, grabbed on to the rim and swung himself upwards, but lost his balance and fell hard onto the floor out-of-bounds. Turner was later helped off the floor after laying on the court for several minutes.

He later went to the Ohio State University Medical Center, but initial reports were that the x-rays were negative. More tests later revealed the fractures. Shortly thereafter following the doctor’s diagnosis, Turner was expected to miss eight weeks. Now less than five weeks later, it’s possible that Turner could return tonight against the Hoosiers. Detroit’s Hankins verbals to OSU

Lost in the hoopla of yesterday’s news that defensive end Cameron Heyward and cornerback Chimdi Chekwa are returning for their senior seasons, plus the departure of junior Thaddeus Gibson who is skipping his last year to enter the NFL Draft, Jim Tressel received a huge verbal commitment (no pun intended) from Johnathan Hankins.

Hankins, a 6-foot-2 or so, 300-pound plus defensive tackle had told Sam Webb, the managing editor of GoBlueWolverine.com and co-host of the Michigan Insider morning show on Sports Talk 1050 WTKA in Ann Arbor that “Michigan is like my dream school” just last month, as reported on The Detroit News website back in December.

But Hankins spurned the evil empire and decided to come across the border to play for a winner by announcing his commitment to Ohio State during halftime of the Detroit Pershing-Detroit Southeastern basketball game, Tuesday night. Click here to read more >>

Heyward & Chekwa staying; Gibson leaving

Right: OSU defensive lineman Cameron Heyward announced today he’s staying for his senior season. (AP Photo)

Two juniors announced today that they like Columbus so much that they want to stay another year and play for head coach Jim Tressel and Ohio State, while another junior, Thaddeus Gibson, has decided that he would rather play on Sunday’s.

Cameron Heyward, a 6-foot-6, 287-pound defensive end who had 46 total tackles, 10.0 tackles for loss, and a team-high 6.5 sacks will be back for his senior season.

Another junior that announced he’s staying is 6-foot, 188-pound cornerback Chimdi Chekwa, who had 43 total tackles, seven pass breakups and an interception.

One junior who is leaving, though, is 6-foot-2, 240-pound defensive end Thaddeus Gibson. The all-Big Ten selection led the Rose Bowl champion Buckeyes with 13 tackles for loss this season to go along with four sacks, two fumble recoveries, two forced fumbles and an interception.

Unfortunately for Gibson, every mock draft I could find did not list him as being selected in the first two rounds. Not sure if him leaving is the best idea or not.
