Second-ranked Ohio State got plenty of offense from various weapons and the defense was its typical stingy self as the Buckeyes flattened the Thundering Herd of Marshall, 45-7, in front of 105,040 fans at Ohio Stadium, Thursday night.
Marshall’s first mistake was electing to receive to start the game after winning the coin toss. The Herd’s next mistake was when Andre Booker fumbled the opening kickoff after he was hit hard by Ohio State’s Dominic Clarke and Dorian Bell. Nate Oliver of the Buckeyes recovered the loose ball at the Marshall 22 yard line.
It took just four plays for Ohio State to go the short distance to paydirt when quarterback Terrelle Pryor found DeVier Posey on a six-yard touchdown pass just inside the goal line near the pylon. With 13:42 left in the first quarter, the Buckeyes took the lead and never looked back.
The OSU defense forced Marshall to a three-and-out on their next possession and after a short punt, the Buckeyes set up shop in good field position at their own 49 yard line.
